n the heart of Mexico, there are still more than a dozen communities waiting to experience the
life-changing message of the Bible in their own languages. The Descubre Mexico 2 project staff are
addressing this need by partnering with local churches to guide 20 language communities
on a journey of discovery. Together they’ll explore how translated Scripture can deepen
faith and bring hope to their people.
Through this initiative, facilitators will help local leaders evaluate their translation
needs and equip them to take ownership of the process. During the previous project,
teams surveyed many communities to discuss their need for Scripture. They
learned best practices for building trust and launching translation workshops
in a swath of languages.
Drawing on insights gained from that endeavor, this next chapter will prioritize
collaboration and innovation, ensuring that every language community has
a voice in shaping its future with Scripture.
Jaime is a pastor and church planter in Mexico, but until recently he didn’t use
his own language much in ministry. He hadn’t learned to read it well, so he’d grown
accustomed to using Spanish instead.
But things changed when he acquired an audio device preloaded with Scripture translated
by a local team. Hearing the Word in his language inspired Jaime, and he couldn’t get
enough! He listened while working in the fields. He listened every night when he got
home. He listened as he traveled to speak at churches. He even used the audio device
to share the gospel with others. God’s Word in his language touched him in a way
that Spanish could not.
“I am understanding the Bible better now with the translation,” he said. “I am
listening and paying attention to every detail of the narration. Every day I fall
more in love with the one who saved me.”

Throughout Mexico, pastors like Jaime are growing in passion for Bible translation.
Local churches are working closely with partner organizations that are helping equip
them to lead translation efforts in their languages.
