K
airos is a Greek word meaning “a time of opportunity and
action.” It’s a fitting name for the moment when church
networks around the world decided to produce the Word of God
in their own languages.
These networks came together in a church partnership
alliance called Beyond Translation, with a
common goal of seeing the Great Commission
fulfilled and Scripture translated for the
people groups and languages they serve.
That partnership resulted in the Kairos
Clusters pilot initiative.
So far, local church networks have translated
the Gospel of Luke into more than 100 languages —
the first Scripture ever translated for all the participating
communities! Now, in this second phase of the project,
regions are continuing to oversee their own individual
full New Testament translation projects. Nine Kairos
initiatives are currently underway, with the potential for more to be added.
The overall goal is to complete the entire New Testament in more
than 100 languages over the next four years, though the scope
will evolve as additional initiatives are considered. Each regional team
will start off with the remaining Gospels, then proceed with the other
books in the order that best serves their communities.
