A Renewed Passion for Following Christ
In Papua New Guinea, participants from 80 language
groups are translating God’s Word in languages people
understand. The Gospel of Mark is already in progress
for all 80 languages! This is thanks to God’s faithfulness,
and the help of your prayers and gifts to the 2024 Gift
Catalog, which raised over $920,000! The Gift Catalog is
impacting Bible translation in more than 165 languages.
One man has already experienced a remarkable
transformation by hearing the gospel in his own language.
Andrew had once been a faithful follower of Jesus, even
serving as an elder in his church. But that was more than
20 years ago, and since then Andrew had left his faith.
Recently, translators from one of the Wanbel Cluster
languages held a special gathering in the community,
sharing portions of their work from Mark’s Gospel in the local
language. Organizers invited members of the community
to act out the Bible stories on stage. To the surprise of
many, Andrew not only showed up for the event but also
accepted an invitation to perform one of the parts.
Appropriately, Andrew was given the role of his namesake
from Scripture — one of Jesus’ disciples — in a scene that
came directly from Mark’s first chapter where Jesus begins
to choose His 12 disciples.
Later that night, a voice interrupted Andrew’s sleep,
calling him once more by the very same words he’d heard
earlier on stage: “Come, follow Me.”
The impulse to obey the voice was irresistible. The next
morning, Andrew went to a translator’s home, asking for
prayer, and then recommitted his life to Christ. Soon after,
Andrew spoke at another Christian gathering, this time
confessing his sins. The response to Andrew’s repentance
was so dramatic that several others in the community —
including Andrew’s sister — also gave their lives to Jesus!
This is the impact that God’s Word can have — even just
the first few pages of Mark’s Gospel can change lives for
eternity! Imagine what God will do in these communities
when the full counsel of His Word is available to all people in
