Even though a lot of the Bible is
translated into Tok Pisin, it’s harder
for us to understand. Since Tok Pisin
is mainly for doing business, it doesn’t
have a lot of familiar words for things
found in the Bible, so sometimes
we get confused. And when we get
confused, we might miss some of what
God is trying to say to us!
In Pouye the word for “God” is
Irpapowiyu Ramu. When you translate
that back into English, it basically
means “Creator Being.” God created
everything in this whole world—
including all the languages! The
reason it’s so important that we have
the Bible in Pouye is because God
created our language too. And just like
in the creation story in Genesis, God
looked at what He had created and
said, “It is good.” I’m sure He says the
same thing when He sees more people
getting the Bible in the language their
heart understands best.
FUN FACTS:
People who speak Pouye often eat their food with
a spoon, but they also use their hands.
Papua New Guinea shares the island of New
Guinea with Indonesia, and it’s one of the biggest
islands in the world! Only Greenland is bigger.
The smallest frog in the world, called Paedophryne
amauensis, was discovered in Papua New Guinea.
It’s around the size of a fly!
