Hi, kids! My name is Joseph, and I live
Pouye
(BOO-yay)
59
in Papua New Guinea. Kate told me that
you’ve been to my country before and
met Anna, who speaks Arop. You
might think that since we live
in the same country, we’d
speak the same language.
But there are over 800
different languages in
our country! I speak a
language called Pouye.
Even though there are only
about 1,000 people that
speak Pouye, a Bible is being
translated for us! Many of
us also speak Tok Pisin.
That’s a language lots of
people speak in Papua
New Guinea. It’s what
you would call a trade
language—a language
that’s used when
doing business.
